The Le Touret Memorial is in Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg-l'Avoue, and is one of those erected by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to record the names of the officers and men who fell in the Great War and whose graves are not known. It serves the area enclosed on the North by the river Lys and a line drawn from Estaires to Fournes, and on the South by the old Southern boundary of the First Army about Grenay; and it covers the period from the arrival of the II Corps in Flanders in 1914 to the eve of the Battle of Loos.
Over 13,000 names are listed on the memorial of men who fell in this area before 25 September 1915 and who have no known grave. The Yorkshire Regiment names are recorded on the Memorial's Panel 12, and include that of Corporal William Anderson, VC. Every one of the 225 recorded names of the men of the Yorkshire Regiment were from the 2nd Battalion. The names recorded fell mostly in the battles of either March 1915 (Neuve Chapelle) or June 1915 (Givenchy).
The names of the men of the Yorkshire Regiment found on the Le Touret Memorial are listed below. For further details on each name, select the initial letter above the list of surnames to be taken to another page which contains data on men whose surname starts with that letter.
Additionally, there is a photo of the panel which bears the names of all those soldiers of the Yorkshire Regiment commemorated on the memorial. To view this panel, select this link, - Panel Names.
